Mother Baby Make Smokers at Risk Bladder Irritation

FOR parents who smoke, especially mothers, now there are new warnings about your habits. Dangers of smoking will not only endanger yourself, but also children. A recent study suggests that children who have smoking parents are at greater risk of bladder irritation. Children aged between 4 and 10 years are those that have a substantial risk of exposure to cigarette smoke. Irritation of the bladder make sufferers feel the urge to urinate more frequently and incontinence. The results showed that cigarette smoke exposure associated with more severe symptoms of bladder irritation. The study was organized and led by Dr. Kelly Johnson, a researcher from the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Rutgers University who analyzed the survey information on 45 children ranging in age from 4-17 years. All had symptoms of bladder irritation. The researchers divided the children into four groups based on the severity of their symptoms are very mild, mild, moderate or severe. Twenty-four of the children studied had moderate to severe symptoms, while 21 children had mild or very mild symptoms. Children with moderate or severe symptoms were more likely to have consistent exposure to cigarette smoke, the researchers noted. Of all children, 23 percent had mothers who smoked and 50 percent of those regularly exposed to secondhand smoke while riding in a car. On the other hand, children whose mothers did not smoke and are not exposed to smoke in the car only has very mild symptoms or mild irritation of the bladder. The study is expected to be presented at the annual meeting of the American Urological Association in Atlanta.
